The Best Places to Take Engagement Photos in Connecticut
As a Connecticut wedding and engagement photographer, I spend so much time exploring the shoreline, small towns, vineyards, and parks around the state. One thing I can say for sure: Connecticut is full of stunning places for engagement photos.
Whether you’re dreaming of a coastal session, a quiet nature backdrop, a classic New England town, or something a little more modern, this guide covers the best and most photogenic locations for your engagement session.
These spots photograph beautifully year-round, but especially in the soft, golden light that Connecticut is known for.
1. Harkness Memorial State Park — Waterford, CT
A classic CT engagement location. With its garden paths, stone architecture, wide-open lawns, and ocean views, Harkness offers countless portrait spots in one place.
2. Hammonasset Beach State Park — Madison, CT
Hammonasset is huge and incredibly versatile—it has beaches, tall seagrass, boardwalks, sand dunes, walking trails, and quiet spots for sunset portraits.
3. Guilford Town Green + Downtown — Guilford, CT
Classic New England charm. The white churches, brick paths, historic homes, and tree-lined edges make Guilford one of the most timeless small towns in Connecticut for portraits.
4. Chittenden Park — Guilford, CT
One of my personal favorites. The boardwalk, marsh views, and soft light create such a peaceful atmosphere.
5. Lighthouse Point Park — New Haven, CT
A lighthouse, a carousel, a long stretch of shoreline, and soft pastel sunsets.
6. Yale University Campus — New Haven, CT
Historic architecture, dramatic archways, stone pathways, and that warm, romantic light that bounces beautifully off old stone buildings.
7. Bluff Point State Park — Groton, CT
A serene mix of forest trails and coastal views. The walk to the water is beautiful—and the light here is soft and golden in late afternoon.
8. Eolia Mansion at Harkness Gardens — Waterford, CT
Even if you don’t shoot on the beach, the gardens themselves are stunning. Climbing vines, stone terraces, and lush greenery create dreamy, romantic portraits.
9. Westport + Compo Beach — Westport, CT
Gorgeous driftwood tones, rocks, marinas, and soft sandy beaches. Westport also offers beautiful downtown streets if you want a mixed look.
10. Elizabeth Park Rose Garden — West Hartford, CT
When the roses are in bloom (late June through early July), this garden is breathtaking. You can wander through archways, pathways, and flower-covered structures that feel straight out of a romantic film.
11. Topsmead State Forest — Litchfield, CT
Rolling meadows, stone walls, beautiful farmhouses, and sweeping nature paths. A peaceful and scenic place away from the shoreline.
12. Rocky Neck State Park — East Lyme, CT
A quintessential Connecticut beach with rocky edges, grassy dunes, and warm light.
13. Mystic Seaport Area — Mystic, CT
Wooden boats, docks, historic homes, brick streets, and water views all in one spot.
14. Waveny Park — New Canaan, CT
Classic architecture, sweeping lawns, trails, and a grand estate.
15. Saltwater Farm Vineyard — Stonington, CT
Rows of vines, beautiful light, and modern architecture.
